Our History
The History of Pink Hill Elementary School
In March 1910, George Turner, who was a state legislator and businessman from the Pink Hill area donated a few acres of land to build a school. In 1916, the community began construction of a new school building and in 1917 Pink Hill High School was established and had earned accreditation from the state. This school was a focal point in the small town it was named after. Consolidation occurred in 1964, when South Lenoir High School, formally Deep Run School, was created as a high school in southern Lenoir County. Pink Hill School became a school for first through eighth graders. When district lines were redrawn, many of the students who would have attended Deep Run School were sent to Pink Hill School, attributing to the elementary school's population increase. Six years later, in 1970, Woodington became a junior high school housing seventh and eighth grade students. In 2008, Pink Hill Elementary School made a transition to a new 24 classroom facility about two miles out of town. The school currently serves around 500 students under the direction of principal Lee Anne Hardy.
